I’m thinking that Jeep execs carefully considered who their customer really is (and isn’t). I cannot imagine auto parts stores or pizza drivers using Gladiators to deliver the oil filters (and garlic knots). Ditto for masons and plumber’s assistants.

Their descriptions of the teeth of the chainrings and the new chain lead me to believe that some tweaking may be required, so if there are any 3rd party chainring manufacturers with plans on releasing aftermarket AXS-compatible rings, please speak up as well. I just asked praxisworks and they haven’t tested their chainrings yet.

A Colorado Crew Cab with a Long Box is nearly 19 feet long. It’s as long as a Silverado Regular Cab with a long box, and just a few inches shorter than a Silverado Double Cab. And compared to the 205-inch (17-foot) first-generation Colorado, the current model has gone well beyond pushing boundaries for what can actually be interpreted as mid-size. Thing is, though, that the full sizers just keep getting more and more gargantuan, which keeps everything in perspective. Still, there’s little doubt that there’s room for a Chevy truck beneath the Colorado.

The brake arms are cold-forged from 6061-T6 aluminum, a process that Box claims results in a stiffer and lighter component that has more durability than a piece that has been cnc machined. To put this in perspective, TRP’s largely successful CX9 and CX8.4 brakes are also forged, but feature cnc machining throughout. The Eclipse’s two brake arms show no signs of machining, giving them a smooth and rounded appearance. The laser-etched graphics are a nice touch as well, and are likely to remain fresh for many seasons.

Compensating: In this configuration, when you manually shift the front derailleur, the unit will automatically compensate by shifting one or two additional cogs in the back, depending on how you have it configured. The idea here is to ‘soften’ the blow between big and small ring shifts up front.

I’m one of the weirdos keeping bikes forever (in the process of finally doing a 7-sp to 10-sp upgrade on my 30 yr-old antique that I use on my trainer), and I can just see 5-10 years down the line where “we don’t make that part anymore” means you either have to run with worn-out rings or turn the whole thing into a boat anchor. Cassettes, chains and rings are consumables. Making any of these non-replaceable is about as smart as requiring a brake caliper swap to change pads.
