The classic and custom Porsche market is really interesting when you dive into it. There are lots of little niches that I am slowly starting to learn about. You have rich collectors who will pay insane amounts to get their hands on period-perfect Concours levels cars that are stock to the bone. You also have other rich Porsche fans who want to spend equally absurd amounts of money on recreation restomod 911s from shops like Singer and Emory Motorsports, cars that are jaw-droppingly beautiful and have attention to detail that is truly unbelievable. Then there are everyday folk trying to build their own perfect Porsche through backdating, forward dating and even “Outlaw” creations, each car distinctly personal to its owner.

Fortunately, there are a few companies with easy-to-install upgrade kits. Dynatrac (dynatrac.com) is one of them and offers its Pro-Grip brake system that bolts on to all ’07-’18 Jeep Wrangler JK models. It features larger uniquely vented rotors for the front (13.50-inch) and rear (14.25-inch) as well as performance front and rear brake pad linings. The increased rear braking power provides more balanced braking, reducing nose dive, and it improves the control of the vehicle in mild and hard braking conditions compared to upgrades that only address the front brakes. With the system installed, you’ll instantly notice a more inspiring brake pedal feel and that less brake pedal pressure is required to make stops. Stopping distances are said to improve by up to 30 percent compared to stock brakes on a Jeep JK outfitted with a 4-inch lift and 37-inch-tall tires. Perhaps the biggest advantage of the Dynatrac Pro-Grip brake system is that it does not require the hydraulic system to be cracked open. Messing with the hydraulics is something that often leads to other brake issues for most shade tree mechanics.

Additional Notes: Though very solid in build quality, this saw needs to be updated to keep up with the competition. It runs at only half the RPMs of some of the other saws, which provides a lot of torque, but forces you to feed the cut very slowly to avoid a ragged edge.

As in the "what they do" section above, these aren’t purely volume-reduction devices, although they can help contribute to such solutions when used carefully, and without lofty expectations. They don’t dramatically decrease the overall ambient stage volume (since the volume is still there, it is just being blocked and deflected), and they can sometimes create odd and undesirable reflected sounds from the amp-side of the shield.
