A micro bevel adjustment was another source of contention between Pros. Some really liked the ability to dial in a precise angle while others thought the lack of a specific point of reference would force you to re-zero the angle every time you use it. We left this one as a toss up based on preference.

One of our favorite systems is the rack and pinion design of Skilsaw’s heavy-duty model. A couple other brands also use the same concept. Since the fence locks in place and the table does the moving, you don’t get the slight misalignment that comes with fences that clamp onto the table.

A gravel subcompact needs to support 46/30 at the bare minimum. The groupset may be all new, but SRAM’s inability to manufacture a decent front derailleur is as sucktacular as ever.

To get the feel of the cut, we used a two man team to feed from one end of the saw and catch on the other. This helped us reduce the friction that comes from one person trying to hold a board flush against the fence while also keeping downward pressure to keep it level on the table. There was definitely some hesitation at the beginning of each cut that was alleviated once the board was received by the second man on the other side. It was during this middle section that the table/fence friction was at its lowest point and we made our determinations about each saw’s power and cutting speed.

Coolest detail: Triple down tube. We’ve seen twin down tubes before—Colnago’s BiTitan frames in the 1990s, and more recent examples from Factor—but this is the first triple down tube we’ve ever seen. In place of a single 32mm down tube, there are three 16mm tubes. “I was curious to see if the frame rode any differently,” he said. “[There] is about a 33 percent greater contact area between down and head tube this way.” O’Donnell reports that the bike rides quite well after extensive testing, which included sprints, gravel rides, and “meandering my way home after dinner and drinks.”

Jacobs specs those bikes with the same DT Swiss 350 hubsets from the same production lots if possible for an easy “hot swapping” of the wheels. That means no brake caliper adjustments when switching between 700c wheels with 30mm smooth road tires and 650b with 47mm gravel tires.

All of those components listed above are connected via Bluetooth Smart now. From the shifters to the derailleurs, the power meter to the dropper post. Whereas in the past eTAP wasn’t actually enabled over Bluetooth Smart. It was only accessible externally via ANT+ with the ANT+ Gear Shifting protocol. That meant there wasn’t any viable way for you as a consumer to change settings within the system using a smart app, something that competitor Shimano offered in their setups.  But more on that in a second.
