While I appreciate this review, that Kobalt job site saw is the absolute worst. Uncontrollable blade wobble, terrible fence, trundle bolts that are nearly impossible to get to without tacking the back panel off (of course that doesn’t matter when the blade won’t stay in alignment for more than a day), miter slots that aren’t parallel to each other and also taper toward the backside of the table, and a riving knife without adequate adjustments to align it with the blade. Do not buy that piece of garbage.

That’s almost a negligible improvement in range. Ray, next time you meet someone from SRAM, ask them why they made the difference in big/little chainrings smaller. The overlap is such that there are really only 16 different gear sizes which is the same as for an 11-speed setup.

Somewhere in the middle, lies the mini-v. The stubby sibling to v-brakes, (found on mountain bikes of yore) has become a popular option for riders who are still running frames with canti posts. Mini-v’s often offer improved braking performance over cantis. But the mini-v’s tolerance for mud is notoriously low, because to work effectively the pads need to run close to the rim so that the shorter cable pull of road-style levers will still provide enough movement to contact the rim without the lever bottoming out.
