Even with the changeovers, Datum has one operator tending this workcell. How is that done? The operator places a blank in the punching machine, while taking the already punched part off, and then initiates the punching cycle. The operator then walks to the panel bender and loads the punched part while pulling the bent part from one panel bender. At this time the bending cycle is initiated. The bent part is stacked on a skid, and the operator walks to the other punching machine, where the previous actions are repeated. When the bending cycle is initiated on the other panel bender, the operator then repeats this process, depending on quantities, of course. The operator does a figure eight through the area all day, maintaining all four machines.

The pads performed well in dry weather, although they changed their tune as soon as rain began to fall from the sky in the winter months. Braking power suffered slightly in wet conditions, more so than other all-weather pads that I have used in the past. But after three months of heavy use, and many encounters with mud and rain, the pads have worn only slightly.

The battery charge process takes up to 5 hours from a completely dead pack. 5 hours is a long time to charge a 2.0 amp hour battery these days. The upside is that it should avoid heat buildup that is a challenge in fast chargers. The charger is not your typical tool charger build and will seem on the cheap side for cordless power tool users.

Most guitarists will already be familiar with this one. It’s perhaps the most obvious solution, and it has been with us the longest. A handful of inventive makers started putting master volume controls on their amps as early as the late ’60s, but this simple knob really came into its own with the Mesa/Boogie Mark I amps of the early ’70s, and then the Marshall Master Model amps—the 2203 and 2204 heads—of the mid-’70s. Soon, it was difficult to find a serious guitar amp that didn’t have a master volume there at the end of the control panel.

I’d recommend getting your hands on a mechanic’s stethoscope. These can be purchased inexpensively through companies such as Harbor Freight (harborfreight.com). Carefully poke around the engine to pinpoint where the noise is coming from. Also, be sure to check carefully around the exhaust manifold and collector. It is not at all uncommon for the tick of an exhaust leak to be mistaken as an internal engine problem. Unfortunately, the 4.0L is well known for having exhaust leaks. There are a number of aftermarket headers available to cure a leaky OE cast-iron exhaust manifold if you do find this is the cause of the ticking.

3. The Aprilia Performance Rider Control (APRC) electronics package received a minor update. The changes come in the form of recalibration to better manage the RSV4 1100’s new muscle—all other aspects remain the same. Still available are three riding modes—Sport, Track and Race—along with eight-level traction control, three-level cornering ABS, three-level wheelie control, an up/down quickshifter, and rear wheel lift mitigation. Other niceties are launch control, cruise control, and a pit limiter so you can feel like your favorite WSBK rider. This is easily one of the most advanced and thorough electronic packages on the market; we’ll get to its full functionality later in the review.

Conmet (www.conmet.ru), an implant producer from Moscow, has its roots from worldwide titanium producer VSMPO AVISMA (Verkhnaya Salda, Russia; www.vsmpo.ru) and previous owner Tetuhin Vladislav. Conmet started with a TRUMPF machine to develop processing for production of personal implants. It is not easy to meet medical regulations for implementing new technologies everywhere. The open question is certification for using implants in daily surgical practice.

Every spring, the biggest names in the automotive world roll into Manhattan for the New York International Auto Show. For the next nine days (April 19 to April 28), the Jacob Javits Center will be teeming with sizzling hot sheet metal of all shapes and sizes.

To that end, the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500’s chassis features magnetorheological dampers, as well as truly massive 16.5-inch front and 14.6-inch rear two-piece brake rotors. Those discs are pinched by six-piston fixed Brembo calipers up front and four-piston calipers out back, and the fronts feature 20 percent more swept area than little-brother GT350’s. The ride is set up to be more forgiving than the GT350’s. The standard wheels and tires are 20×11-inch aluminum pieces wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S rubber, while an upgrade package brings Ford GT–style exposed carbon-fiber 20×11.5-inch wheels and Pilot Sport Cup 2s. The tires are sized 305/30 front and 315/30 in the back with either wheel.
