These can still sound great (and those names tell you they are associated with some classic amps), but many guitarists have come to prefer a configuration called the post-phase-inverter master volume (PPIMV for short), which places the pot (or often two ganged pots in one) after the phase-inverter. The phase-inverter is technically part of the output stage, so in this position the MV allows for more of the overall sound of the circuit before reining it in.

Within the realm of tube-based guitar amps—and there are still a lot of us who play them—the most common how do I…? question posed still revolves around obtaining fat, juicy, cranked-up tone at reasonable volumes. Volume levels on stage seem to have declined steadily since the glory days when big full-stack amps ruled the world, and anyone who regularly plays small- to medium-sized clubs in particular will tell you how restrictive many venues are regarding room volume these days. Yet, we all still like to sound big, even if we’re not pegging the needle on the decibel meter.

Additional Notes: Enough gusto for a trim saw, but doesn’t have what it takes to be a full-on framing saw. Timid performance and some inaccurate features hold this saw back to the lower end. The brand new 6.3 Ah Bosch Core18V battery is too big to fit in the saw, but a modified version of the saw housing is being produced going forward. To promote full battery pack compatibility among their 18V line, Bosch will replace the housing for existing saw owners free of charge. Or you could save the hassle and shave the plastic ridge off the back of the saw with a utility knife like I did. The larger battery robs a bit of the already low blade depth though, even in the redesigned housing.

The unknown is the REAXX reaction time. We’ve seen the hot dog test in person and could barely find the cut on it. You can read more about the comparison between SawStop and Bosch here. Make no mistake though, these are the only two saws that will save your fingers—and that’s a really big deal!

Additional Notes: Though very solid in build quality, this saw needs to be updated to keep up with the competition. It runs at only half the RPMs of some of the other saws, which provides a lot of torque, but forces you to feed the cut very slowly to avoid a ragged edge.

With that change you’ll likely find that your existing direct drive trainer won’t be compatible with your new bike/groupset.  If you have a wheel-on trainer, then there’s no impact. I am wondering how much gear the average triathlete will lose on that (i am worried since i tend to use very light gear uphill) any thoughts on that ?!
