The Milwaukee cordless table saw is certainly a welcome addition to the M18 Fuel line of cordless tools. Currently, it’s only direct competition is DeWalt’s FlexVolt model, so there’s at least some comparison we can make on the cordless side. But if we’re talking about moving to a fully cordless job site, I need this table saw to get the job done well enough to make the cordless convenience worth it.

Like any major groupset changes, this one will likely take some time to sink in. There’s a ton of pieces changing here, both on the physical aspects (in terms of cassettes, chains, chainrings, etc…), but also in the smart realm as well when it comes to apps and integration. Obviously, from my standpoint I’m most excited about the electronics side of things, whereas some of you may be more interested in the hardware/gearing aspects.

I assume it only limits you to those three cassettes when in a 2x setup. Otherwise you can do the two mountain cassettes too with a 1x.

The other side of the performance equation is runtime. The more work a tool can perform on a single battery charge, the less hassle you have by switching the pack out or waiting for it to charge. For fuel efficient tools like impact drivers and other 18-volt tools, runtime is not a big deal. That is, so long as you can’t outpace your charger! Since these chainsaws only come with one battery pack, and users aren’t as likely to have spares of these larger batteries around, runtime is especially important.

Russia, the biggest economy in Eastern Europe, has huge potential, but needs a lot of R&D for every application. Many of the Russian Government’s corporations have announced programs for developing industrial technologies and have invested in it—however, moving it into the industrial phase remains a challenge.

Like most chainsaw brands, the companies in this test didn’t try to reinvent the wheel by making their own bars and chains. Instead, they spec’d common Oregon components. Each saw uses a low-profile 3/8-inch chain with a few minor differences.

The 120-employee plant does make scales, only scaled up for industrial, rail, and truck use. When a trucker pulls into a weigh station, he will drive over a treaded plate or concrete that was poured over a metal base. That’s the surface of a scale that can be dozens of feet wide and long, depending on what the application requires. The fabrications involved all lie underneath. Scales are fabricated in modules that can be used alone or combined with others. In this sense, the scales can be, well, scaled up to meet the needs of the application.

Add to that the trend of tool companies becoming increasingly nebulous with their voltage naming conventions, and voltage numbers mean less now than ever. The tools in our test range in voltage from 40V Max – meaning 40 volts maximum charge but 36 volts nominal – to 80V Max with 72 volts nominal. They come equipped with anything from 2.0 to 5.0 amp-hour (Ah) packs.

I think it’s worth noting that when the chainrings wear out you throw out the pm. Really? We’re to disposable PMs now?

Following the traditional design—perhaps blindly—of gas chainsaws that need to idle and rev, the DeWalt 40V Max, Echo, and Greenworks Digi Pro saws feature variable speed triggers. The smoothest cutting is done at the highest chain speed, even for small limbs, so I’m not sure of the utility of this feature on electric saws.
