What exactly do the words “With that said” add to the above review? Nothing. Leave them out, and the meaning is the same. This phrase is much over-used. In most cases, either “however,” or “but,” will usually give the same meaning, without the fingernails-on-a-blackboard effect of any of the other three phrases, (With that said, having said that, and that being said).
