5. The superb six-speed gearbox has had 5th, and 6th gears lengthened. With greater headroom comes the need for longer ratio gearing when holding the throttle wide open, on the massively long straightaway found at Mugello Circuit. Clicking through the gearbox is sublime, as its incredibly well-sorted thanks to the beautiful up/down quickshifter functions, one of the best I’ve used to date. The kill-times are matched perfectly for hard riding and not once did I find a false neutral. Just click a gear up or down, and you’ll be on your merry way.

Here’s a tip, only poke a little hole in the foil sealing your quart or gallon oil bottle so you can pour a skinny stream, or do what I do and dispense your oil from a syrup bottle that has a tapered, pull-to-open tip. It works like a charm, and you can push the tip against the inside of the filler neck to stop the flow for one-handed control when your other hand is steadying the saw.

Reversing the electrical flow throws the motor into reverse long enough to provide the friction needed to stop the rotating blade. As a result, the saw blade stops much more quickly than it otherwise would on its own. It’s easy to imagine the potential damage a blade spinning for 12 seconds after the cut could do—particularly with larger, heavier saws. Equal danger exists with both circular saws and angle grinders which can be set down while the blade still spins.

And the simplest way of reducing the eardrum-piercing sound of a loud guitar amp on stage? Block it with something, of course. Engineers have long created such baffles (often called "gobos") in the studio to help isolate one instrument from another, and the procedure has often been taken to the stage with the use of folding Plexiglas isolation shields, which help to rein in the direct projection of specific sound sources, without entirely cutting off the visual element of the instrument or amplifier in question.

“There are days when the operator will do upwards of 30 to 40 setups when they are running oddball jobs,” Eaton said. “We generally run the oddball parts once a week.”

Another cause of spills is an oil tank with a filler neck that is too narrow. Bar and chain oil is thick and tacky and can pour like molasses in the cold, so it easily “piles up” and overflows in a narrow neck.
