The efficiency puzzle has many pieces. Magnetic lifting is one piece, advanced robotic welding is another. The odd thing about this puzzle is that its pieces can change, and the picture is never fully complete. At Mettler Toledo, the search for the next piece isn’t stopping anytime soon.

The 4.0L Jeep engines are nearly bulletproof. If properly maintained, they can easily hit 250,000 miles. Unfortunately, sometimes they still have issues. It’s difficult to identify an internal engine noise via email, but there are a few things you can check. The first thing to remember is that the 4.0L engines were never all that quiet to begin with. The 4.0L engine was based on a 50-year-old design. Having said that, it’s also not uncommon for a 4.0L lifter to have issues. I think you should first inspect the oil pressure. The typical oil pressure rule for older engines like your 4.0L is to look for 10 psi for every 1,000 rpm. If it’s dipping below this, you could have a failing oil pump or worn bearings in the engine. Although, some 4.0L engines will run for years on minimal oil pressure. Regardless, excessively worn or damaged engine bearings will be easy to diagnose when inspecting the engine oil. If there are lots of metal flakes in the oil, you likely have a bigger internal issue and a teardown might be required.

Clark is planning some trips in January to hand deliver “bunny bags” for “Operation Bunny Hop,” which kicks off with the new year. Clark said the bags contain coloring books, crayons and toys. Boxes of the bags are sent to some locations while she hand-delivers some to others, including hospitals in California and Nevada.

The discs are made from cast iron castings and are machined to tight tolerances and high surface finishes in low volumes. Alcon currently machines approximately 500 – 600 discs per week in the new cell. Brake disc diameters vary in size from 200mm to 405mm depending on the end application.

Coolest detail: Offset seatstays. At first glance, the offset seatstay attachment looks a bit like the builders had a few too many while welding up the frame. But according to cofounder Cole Bennett, there’s a good functional reason for the offset stays. A bicycle’s drivetrain puts asymmetrical loads on the frame, which this design helps counteract. “In order to compensate for the increased stress on the right side, we used larger tubing diameters and a dropped stay to create a tighter, stiffer drive-side triangle,” said Bennett.
