There were just two areas where Echo didn’t come out on top. It’s toward the bottom of the pack for weight—hardly a major issue in this class of tools. It also comes with plastic bucking spikes rather than the steel ones I prefer.

Corrosion on the brake components is not normal. Rust is a sign that a critical layer of protection has failed. Corrosion leads to a transformation of the surface of the material and eventual erosion of the metal.

These can still sound great (and those names tell you they are associated with some classic amps), but many guitarists have come to prefer a configuration called the post-phase-inverter master volume (PPIMV for short), which places the pot (or often two ganged pots in one) after the phase-inverter. The phase-inverter is technically part of the output stage, so in this position the MV allows for more of the overall sound of the circuit before reining it in.

So, SRAM shipped a USB dongle in a box with thousands of etap groups for it never to be used for upgrading on the last generation etap. Are they just going to ignore that whole part in the “it’s hard without bluetooth” to make backwards compatibility a thing? indexing died on mechanical groups, electronic should easily be upgradable.

Additional Notes: Though very solid in build quality, this saw needs to be updated to keep up with the competition. It runs at only half the RPMs of some of the other saws, which provides a lot of torque, but forces you to feed the cut very slowly to avoid a ragged edge.

If you trigger the Bosch, you can get back up and running very quickly by flipping the dual-activation cartridge. It will cost you around $99 to get another one—also good for two more events. That’s $50 per event by the numbers. Your blade will continue to work and does not even need to be removed. A safety event on the SawStop will cost you around $69 for the replacement brake cartridge plus a new blade. It takes some finagling to remove the brake from the SawStop, but the included tools will help you pry it and the damaged blade off the table saw.

Coolest detail: Crazy sparkles. One of the best parts of buying a bike from a craft builder is that you can get it painted almost any way you like. Mosaic’s in-house paint shop—Spectrum Paint and Powder Works—is already known as one of the best around, and now it’s expanding its palette with some serious sparkle. The sparkle is created by holographic flake, which reflects a rainbow of colors. According to Mosaic spokesperson Philip Ball, the flake is so big that Spectrum needed to invest in a new paint gun just to spray it.

If the licensed used car dealers don’t want to be “hurt” by consumers importing their own cars, the dealers need to stop gouging us on costs. Simple as that.
