The blade brake is an excellent safety feature. It’s also convenient. Waiting on the blade to stop before moving the material is annoying. A spinning blade can cause kickback, damage to your work, and injury. It’s good practice to act around blades as if they don’t have brakes. But in any event, the brake saves us time and potential damage. Also excellent is the onboard storage for the push stick, blade wrenches, and cord wrap, but the miter gauge is a little wobbly. It actually fell out a couple times in transport, so just be sure it’s secure.

Shimano must be jumping for joy at this. I get system integration but the rest is just nuts. First the cost, second having to bin the powermeter when you need to chainge the chainrings, third the requirement for an XDR driver for wheelset, so you’ll have to update any wheels you have or accept you can’t switch. At least with 11sp all cassettes were compatible. Lastly in the world of marginal gains on the road why an earth would you want to go with a 50 for the largest chainring and a 10 on the cassette which would be less efficient than running a 53/11, are people then going to add on ceramic speed jockey wheels.

Many pads use a protective layer of paint or powder coating to protect the backing plate. This is applied after the friction material is mated with the backing plate. This protects the exposed metal surfaces. Galvanization is a plating process where an outer layer of zinc is applied to the backing plate by electroplating. Zinc does corrodes, but at a much lower rate than steel and acts as a sacrificial layer.
